Portable appliance testing (PAT) involves inspecting portable electrical equipment and appliances that plug into a power source. This includes everything from microwaves and fridges to monitors, laptops, and phone chargers.

PAT testing is not a legal requirement for businesses and landlords, but it is good practice to get it done annually: many insurance companies will require a PAT test result in the event of an electrical accident, a fire caused by an appliance, or any claims made.
